Susi Evans

“The Jimi Hendrix of the clarinet” (The groom at a 2006 wedding)

At the age of sixteen, Susi attended the Purcell School, one of Britain’s four specialist music schools. She won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in 2000, where she studied the clarinet intensively with London’s top orchestral musicians. She graduated with a first class degree in 2004. It was while studying in Hungary at a clarinet summer school in 2000 that she first became inspired by klezmer. Susi has since travelled to Bulgaria, Greece, the Czech Republic and Turkey to study Balkan and gypsy music and has had clarinet lessons from renowned Turkish gypsy clarinettist Selim Sesler.
